A fun small time criminal film with an indie feel. Nice stop on Anderson’s road to more decadent endeavors. Wilsons are synced.

I really enjoy this short-film by Anderson. We can see some details like his close-up shots or the symmetrical environment well-used in his filmography. I quite like seeing how a director became what he is now.

The short was a bit better than the full movie. It was more thematic, the comedy reigned through a little more and wasn’t lost in an overly daunting plot. While the sound mixing and editing style may have not been great, I enjoyed the writing more than the later rendition.

That “why” of Owen Wilson sounded just like the “wow” everyone knows him about. First time I hear Owen sweat so much. Such a silly jazzy soundtrack.

While the feature length version of Bottle Rocket is superior by far, there’s a lot to appreciate here. It’s always inspiring to watch great directors early works. This is one of those instances. 6.5/10
