Bob Marley: One Love

Was I the only one that thought it was too short?

Underwhelming and uninformative. A lot of music biopics feel fake, and this fits right in. The production felt good, same with the cinematography, but it's nothing great. The acting from Kingsly felt so put on it took me out of several scenes. The whole 'biopic' side was so unbalanced. It dragged out parts that don't add to his life and completely misses parts that do. The musical side to this was great because of Bob's songs. The dialogue and pacing match each other in the number of times I eye rolled. A letdown from the key parts I thought it needed but an adventure for the good few parts.

Fared much better on the rewatch. It’s still pretty messy structurally, but looking at the film as an evolution of Bob Marley’s music rather than a typical biopic really worked for me this time. The sound is incredible, not only the music itself, but the mastering of it; sounds phenomenal on surround sound.

Kingsley Ben-Adir is triumphant. He truly embodies Marley to the point of being unrecognisable. Lashana Lynch is great too, although sh really only gets one or two scenes to shine before otherwise pushed to the side.

I’m glad I enjoyed this film more, I wanted to like it the first time around, but I think higher expectations plagued that initial viewing. Thankfully no longer the case.

A bit slow in parts but a lot of heart, enjoyable over all :)
