It’s not perfect but it’s unabashedly what it is. The violence and gore is definitely there. The death scenes could have used a little bit of work but I kinda like how unrealistic they seemed to me even though idk the proper way to die suddenly. The dub is terrible but doable

Really liked the concept of this, the overall plot, the underground political and social messages. No wonder the government tried to ban it in Japan. The score was incredible too, and the influence it had on many games and films.
But I guess some of the few flaws that put me off-

way too long and a bit boring

Don’t get it twisted, this is a terrible movie. But even though it’s absolutely brain dead it is enjoyable. People give the premise too much praise, it was an inevitability.

The dialogue (at least with the dub and subtitles) was atrocious, in the best way.

Christ, I don’t think anyone could even have dreamt of just how much this film has impacted todays culture!? I wonder what the writers think about now that they know that their format has created games like fortnite 😂

i like the idea very much, considering it must be the first of its genre before all the other similar movies. but something threw me off all along with their acting even if it was old, the plot could've been perfect.

What a movie. This was incredible instead of playing up the action and making it fun it makes you feel horrible for the characters being forced into the situation every moment is tense and leaves you on the edge of your seat That ending was incredible chefs kiss 10/10 MASTERPIECE

Really appreciated it for the concept and work it produced (and influenced). Death scenes were intentionally comical but it allows you to focus on the message and not the gore. 7.3/10 would watch again
