If someone asked me what my guilty pleasure film is, it would definitely be this one 😅. It has great cinematography, a good script, memorable characters, and impressive special effects. Keep in mind, this movie was released in 1995.
I used to watch this film a lot on VHS when I was a child. There were many themes that I did not fully understand back then, but now as an adult, I realize that it explores some very dark topics, such as the separation of Fly’s puppies, the slaughter of farm animals, envy, and death.
However, not everything in this film is dark. It also includes more joyful themes, such as comedy, tenderness (especially through some of the animals), and hope.
Babe was a milestone in the representation of animals in cinema, showing their emotions and ways of thinking in a way audiences could connect with. The film is also based on the book The Sheep-Pig by Dick King-Smith.
The main theme of Babe is that family is defined by those who raise and care for us, not only by those who give birth to us.

I love that James Cromwell read the script and took the role thinking it would be a nice quiet part for him to do. Later admitting it was one of the parts in his career that caused the most effort.

Very wholesome movie that had a wonderful kind hearted story and it felt like a live action Disney film.

i remember watching this film in elementary school. this feel-good childhood classic is so sweet and charming. the animals are adorable, the story is heartwarming, and the message about believing in yourself is powerful. that'll do, pig.
