I expected a standard samurai anime, but got a brutal, bleak survival story that really tests your stomach.

The Director’s Eye:
Sato drops 3D CGI onto watercolor backgrounds. The desolate landscapes of ruined Kyoto are hauntingly beautiful—studying this barren wasteland gave me great gritty visual inspiration for the Pan-Asia aesthetic script I’m working on. As a man of faith, seeing an abandoned child resort to cannibalism was a tough watch. But the core message is profound redemption. A monk shows this beast grace. The idea that no soul is too lost to be saved is a powerful truth that hit home for me. The somber score perfectly matches the dread.

The Cuts:
Massive content warning: it's incredibly graphic and disturbing. The sheer misery early on is suffocating. Also, the 3D models look stiff and jarring against the lush 2D backgrounds, taking me out of the first act.

Verdict:
Disturbing but redemptive, championing the sanctity of life. Definitely not for a casual movie night.

Favorite Line: "There is beauty in life."

Bon, y a personne qui a regardé ce film ?? L’animation peut déranger mais on s’y habitue vite. Le film est vraiment bien et l’histoire de ce petit est vraiment touchante.
