I do not feel meh about this movie, first of all. I just don’t “like” it either. The animation side of this film is amazing. Some times it’s so realistic it’s uncanny. The emotion and motion (the one take sex scene especially) the animators were able to convey is uncanny. The parts where they utilize stop motion as a medium as a meta storytelling device is also extremely disturbingly creative.
Story wise it’s a straight cis man midlife crisis with Kaufman’s signature fantasy style storytelling. Kaufman always amazes me with his ability to stay right on the borderline between portraying pathetic characters and speaking up for them. I don’t dislike that. I just don’t necessarily like it either…?

don't get me wrong it was a good movie it just didn't meet my expectation and my type at all

Love how open this movie is to interpretation. This movie highlights loneliness, what it means to appreciate what you have, and the complex relationship of wanting what you want while also being too controlling in that desire.

Watched this because I love the art of stop motion but I just didn’t get it and was bored. Like I kind of get the message but so uninteresting to me & a waste of stop motion.

I really wanted to like this movie. There were concepts the director touched on that I thought were wonderful and I loved the plot overall, I just did not love the final execution of the vision. I was excited to see it but I suppose I was let down by my own expections.
