You just know Matt Damon was relieved as FUCK when Nolan came calling about The Odyssey and he could escape starring in this.
What a genuinely trashy film Ben Affleck has made here. Before now, he had a genuinely great line-up of directorial efforts - but man, this is such a severe cut below. Yet another rip-off, of High and Low, following Spike Lee’s also disappointment, pot-shot with Highest 2 Lowest - it just doesn’t work, and it all feels incredibly melodramatic and obvious, not to mention forcibly political.
Ben Affleck puts in a good performance, but it’s really not enough to recover anything. Hell, everyone here, par Gillian Anderson unfortunately, puts in a good performance. But the film is just genuinely so jarring that it’s all empty.
A truly horrendous 3rd act that exceeds that viral clip you can see on Twitter - just terrible. Also, all Affleck’s talk about the “power of AI” in filmmaking and how it’s “seamless” - this is proof it isn’t…

6.6/10 it was a fine movie, very compelling up until the end, the ai dogshit catch of hector in the la river was abysmal and there were a lot of holes after that. Where did ramon get the gun? They say it was marks fathers hunting rifle but 3 scenes earlier in the bedroom he said he wished he had a gun. Setting the car on fire with the bodies and guns in it wouldnt burn everything, they’d still recover and identify the bodies and the guns so the whole press conference doesnt make any sense cause theres a lot of evidence that the story didnt go the way mark tells it.

Decent basic concept and loaded cast that suffers from deeply mediocre writing and a plot that completely loses steam and falls apart as it nears the end. Another C+ Netflix film that includes cheap looking graphics.

Streaming Hollywood trash. Script was terrible. Acting was rough. Storyline was dumb and made little sense. Barely explained the reason the kidnapping was happening. Just dumb.

I realized as I watched this “I’ve seen something just like it!” Highest 2 Lowest, which wasn’t any better. This just feels like another regurgitated Netflix film from the mill. Nothing special despite the stacked cast. It’s not bad but not great, watchable but why bother?
