And So It Goes
Douglas and Keaton do just as well with the romantic angle, mostly because he's so adept at dispelling any whiff of mawkishness. Oren's essential orneriness remains, no matter what, and the film turns out to be a lot of fun because of him.

And So It Goes
And So It Goes is a heartwarming film about two older people finding love and happiness again after the loss of their respective spouses. While the premise isn’t particularly groundbreaking, the movie succeeds because of its charming cast and emotional sincerity. It’s the kind of story you’ve probably seen before, but it’s told well enough that it remains engaging from start to finish.
The real highlight is the chemistry between Diane Keaton and Michael Douglas. Their relationship feels natural and believable, and they play off each other perfectly. Michael Douglas especially shines as Oren, a grumpy, emotionally closed-off man who slowly begins to open his heart again. One thing about me—I will always eat up the “grumpy old man learns to care” trope, and this movie delivers exactly what I wanted. Watching him gradually soften and reconnect with the people around him was easily the most satisfying part of the film.
I also thought Sterling Jerins did a great job in her role. Her character adds a lot of heart to the story and helps drive Oren’s growth throughout the film. I do wish we had gotten to spend more time with some of the supporting characters, because the moments we do get with them are enjoyable and make the world feel more lived in.
Overall, And So It Goes is a sweet, easy-to-watch romantic dramedy with strong performances and plenty of heartfelt moments. If you’re a fan of the “grumpy person who’s actually hurting deep down” character arc, there’s a good chance you’ll enjoy this one.
