5.3 - I’ve sat on this review for too long; I just couldn’t bring myself to even figure out my thoughts.

It was a slog at its over two hour run time. It’s overwritten & excessively pretentious, while focused on a topic that has unfortunately been almost completely depleted in today’s climate. It wants to be provoking but doesn’t dig in enough to actually provoke, & instead settles for lazy satire and stabs at college and gen z culture. And the ending gives us so much nothing that I almost want to drop my rating even further.

There is some cool camera work, some underwhelming but ok music, & a couple performances with enough life in them to keep me seated through the whole thing, but for what could have been one of the year’s best between its theme & the names attached it sadly ended up much closer to the year’s biggest let down. Someone get Ayo in a true quality project please.

this movie made me realize that i will never be one of those hoity toity ppl who sit and have conversations about the implications of morality in society. like sorry that im funny and like to enjoy my life. while i absolutely do have the ability to keep up with those conversations. they’re not difficult to follow. it’s not my intelligence i swear. the need to sound intelligent in spaces like that is so ANNOYINGGGGGG. like stfu and talk about smth else. like you’re smocking cigarettes, where’s the weed. like yall have cunt ass music playing in the background and you was to talk about restorative justice vs vengeance like BORRRRRIIIINGG.

that lady is CONSTANTLY cross faded. i fucking knew it was an ulcer. i was destined to be a physician but i realized that i love life and want to serve. the fuck do i look like being a doctor.

okay so revealing her past relationship with her dads best friend is so interesting. the idea was that she continuously came on to him and she’s saying that she manipulated him into being with her essentially. but she was 15 and her husband is like “girl you were deadass 15 as a grown man he should’ve said NOOOOO no matter how hard you tried.” she wrote an article abt him exposing him which she swears are lies. and he ends up killing himself. i honestly feel like her need for control and the embarrassment of being manipulated despite her intelligence embarrasses her. THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH INTELLIGENCE BTW. and she’d rather sound like the abuser rather than the abused. she kept a picture of him in an envelope even in her 50s. and when telling her husband about it she says “i love him” he said “i love you”. which i think that she truly believes what she was saying but the fact that he even allowed them to be in a position for her to try to pursue him already puts him at fault sorry. this movie is the personification of when a boomer says smth really emotionally jarring that they went through and think it’s not a big deal and didn’t effect them.

if a child is coming on to you as an adult you fucking know to avoid them, tell their parent, or never be alone with them. i think this is the moment that her husband realized that she’s too far gone to even comprehend the idea that the victims that she is so skeptical of, is literally her.

there are noooooo direct quotes btw. i don’t think i really understood the movie but i liked it. also fuck y’all like the idea of andrew’s character not raping her was less likely that him raping her. u didn’t believe him for a second

My likes outweigh the bad here, from the detailed academic world to the ambiguous ending. The performances reel you in as the story goes, especially Julia Roberts. It can sometimes feel frustrating, but at least the film forces you to think deeper.

After the Hunt is a tense thriller where a professor’s hidden past comes back to haunt her. Suspenseful, dramatic, and full of twists.

super uncomfortable

luca guadagnino, trent reznor & atticus ross are THE power duo (trio??). love the acting from all ayo, julia, andrew, and michael! very prevalent message, great camera work and i love the focus on body language!

Guadagnino does a Woody Allen but without losing his style. Either way, the film works... but it will surely leave several people smarting because of its critique.

Unfortunately felt underwhelming, largely unnecessary and I walked away without an understanding of the characters motives or any interest in any of their stories. The musical score was also disappointing and quite jarring. However was very nicely shot.

4/10 the worst score ive ever heard to be honest. boring at points and long. great acting!!! super complex characters. some rly good scenes. im not sure i understand the point of this movie tho. PLZ tell me what the message was supposed to b! did i miss smthn?

I rlly wanted to like it

It was interesting but I didn’t think it was as ironed out as it could have been. I like Alma’s inherently flawed character and the discussion surrounding who benefits from privilege, but I feel like the theme of cancel culture was dropped in without proper attention given to it.

It was ok. The plot itself was interesting and acting is good… but the director def went out of the way to make scenes more avant-garde and artsy than they needed to be. Would be better if they skimmed a layer of that off

What could’ve been an intense and intricate examination into the modern relationship between gender and society is bogged down by a third act which promotes critical thought but cannot ultimately decide where the hell it ought to stand.
