Rated: 4.2/10 ⭐️
I hoped for a unique haunted house vibe, but the messy plot left me pretty underwhelmed.
What Worked:
Bousman’s design of stitching together tragedy rooms is wild, using great “show-don't-tell” techniques for an eerie, claustrophobic weight. Through my Faith Methodism lens, Julia’s push for truth reminds me we need grace and community to heal from grief, rather than letting trauma consume us. Fimognari’s moody cinematography also anchors the grim town perfectly.
The Cuts:
The middle part really dragged for me; heavy exposition stalls the momentum before we reach the house. Keeping it spoiler-free, the villain’s plan feels half-baked, and the vague mechanics left me feeling a little lost. Plus, the weird hardboiled noir dialogue doesn’t fit the modern setting, making emotional beats feel flat.
Verdict:
A visually interesting but messy flick. Okay for a late-night conceptual haunted house watch, but skip if you need a tight, fast-paced thriller.
Favorite Line: “We’re going to build a house of many rooms.”

TC McConnell is "meh" on
Abattoir
Its a movie. Theres a decent plot, with ok characters, and three acts. The acting was spot on, but the script was iffy. Not a bad movie but also not a good one. Nothing special, but its a quick watch if your looking for something weird and interesting.

Truly intriguing story and concept. Lacking in character development, which felt due to trying to fit so much story into a short amount of time; but overall not a bad film. Fun watch.
