What were people in 1902 on??😭 I liked that they were wizards. Also why were they tryna shoot the moon, like they have beef with the moon fr 💀 ALSO WHEN HE PICKED UP THE ALIEN KING AND JUST DEMOLISHED HIM😭 I liked the end where the alien did a little jig back on earth 🕺👽 6/10

A Trip to the Moon

Because it’s the first movie ever created (1902), you shouldn’t expect much. Plot was basic but it was cool looking back on history to see the creation of movies. As a movie itself, it’s a 4/10 maximum because of the quality and plot. But for it’s time, it’s a masterpiece

A Trip to the Moon

Rating: 8.6/10 ⭐️

I expected a dusty relic, but its handmade creativity completely blew me away.

What Worked:
Méliès’s substitution splice gives the editing a magical texture. The theatrical stage machinery (like hitting the Man in the Moon’s eye) adds whimsical weight. Through my Methodist faith lens, the explorers’ hostility toward the aliens is a messy reminder of how humanity defaults to violence over extending grace.

The Cuts:
The early part really dragged for me; the theatrical posing before launch felt super repetitive. Without modern editing, the stationary wide shots make the pacing stiff. Keeping it spoiler-free, the mean-spirited treatment of the captive alien gave me total tonal whiplash compared to the lighthearted start.

Verdict:
An essential piece of history that birthed VFX. A must-watch for film nerds, but skip if you need modern pacing.

Favorite Line: “Labor omnia vincit.”
