The most evil forces of the universe (Rita & Zedd, the Machine Empire and Divatox) have formed an alliance with the monarch of all evil, Dark Specter. With Zordon as his prisoner, Dark Specter will use Zordon's powers to spread evil across the universe. Meanwhile Cassie, Ashley, Carlos and T.J. (4 of the 5 Turbo Rangers) have journeyed into space and teamed up with Andros, a human from the space colony of KO-35, in the mission to rescue Zordon. On their way they battle the forces of Dark Specter's most loyal servant Astronema and her army of monsters, star-fighters and Quantrons; all who will stop at nothing to prevent the rangers from reaching Zordon.

Power Rangers Turbo is an American television series and the fifth season of the Power Rangers franchise. The show was prefaced with the franchise's second film, Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie. This was Jason David Frank's last appearance in the Power Rangers franchise until he appeared in the 10th anniversary special "Forever Red" on Power Rangers Wild Force. He later starred in Power Rangers Dino Thunder, which premiered seven years later. It also marked the final appearances of Catherine Sutherland and Steve Cardenas until the 25th anniversary special "Dimensions in Danger" during Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel.

Operation Overdrive is broadcast on Toon Disney's Jetix programming block and ABC Kids in the United States, and on stand-alone Jetix networks in other countries. The program is a co-production between The Walt Disney Company and Toei. It was the first Power Rangers season to use HD footage of the Sentai. It was also broadcast on terrestrial network ITV in the United Kingdom. It was the first season for the Power Rangers series that did not air on ABC Family.
