The Death of Robin Hood

7.3/10
A reverse slow burn:
The climax happened at the beginning of the movie and we see a rejection of the traditional Robin Hood story in place of a much darker one.
The violence was brutal and the themes were intense.
Not really an action adventure although that’s kinda how it begins.
More of a character drama.
Hugh Jackman absolutely killed it.
The ending completely rejects the Hollywood version of Robin Hood.
I really enjoyed this film but it might be a little slow for some.

This is not the Robin hood of legends. Though this Robin Hood might have spun some of the tales in order to cover up past crimes and to help him commit further ones. This is a Robin Hood living in a brutal world, doing violent things and he is good at it. But it is wearing on him. He is finding it hard to unclench. He is like one of his bows, constantly under tension. After several very violent interactions he is sent to a convent to heal They veered away from a love story between the Abbess and Robin Hood as they could easily have done. This story is not about Robin hood finding a new life. This is the story of a man coming to terms with how he lived it. Only in his last years is he able to give some mercy to himself and those he meet. There is no redemption for his deeds, but there is finally regret. As in the legends, at the end an arrow is loosed as he dies, marking a last letting go. I found it deeply moving, it might be too slow for some, to violent for others, but it is true

The Death of Robin Hood

More like "The rehabilitation of Robin Hood."
Literally. He's a suicidal little fucker. But honestly, it's a new and never-before-seen version of R. Hood.

The Death of Robin Hood

A dark story about a tired man finding some semblance of inner reconciliation with his past life, and his absolution in death. It was a very good movie. Some people have compared it to the movie Logan, and I can see where they are coming from. If you want an action movie, then you have come to the wrong place. It has some action in the beginning, the rest is him coming to terms with who he was. It is slow, but it is recommended

The Death of Robin Hood

Incredibly brutal imagining of a well-covered
character throughout media, not only in the sense of its action - which it is, but rather in its themes.

The Death of Robin Hood spends a lot of its time questioning morality, bearing a warning of the cost that’s inherent when talking about “legend”. As you enter the third act, there’s actually a brilliant meditation on the cycle of violence, one that I don’t think has affected me as much since the same was presented in The Last of Us: Part Two. The score is brooding and atmospheric, ditto for cinematography, but there are glimpses of hope in both visuals and audio throughout.

Hugh Jackman is fantastic here, certainly going to go down as one of his best among Prisoners, Les Mis and The Prestige. Bill Skarsgård yet again consistently interesting, even if he’s yet to have his ‘breakout hit’. The same actually goes for Jodie Comer! Noah Jupe is on a bit of a roll with… well his whole career actually, he’s been in some great films!

All of this aside, the way Sarnoski captured the landscape here made me really excited for his Death Stranding adaptation!

Hugh Jackman was great as a dark, gritty version of Robin Hood. First half was great but didn’t really stick the landing in the second half - 6/10

The Death of Robin Hood

8/10 Enjoyable story of a man turned monster coming full circle after reflection of crimes/murders committed over a lifetime. It’s a realistic look at the man not the folklore of “Robin Hood”. Great cast and well captured director. Recommend.

For as terrible as I thought this movie would be, it was actually really freaking good. Gruesome, lonesome, sad, loyal, heartfelt, original. I really enjoyed it.
